Train hard for the player you want to be!

I have had so many players say their dream would be to play at Auburn, Texas, UCLA, Arizona etc., but it takes so much more than wishful thinking and talent to get you there. If you truly want to play at the highest level you have start training now and outworking your competition. Being from the Midwest we already are at a disadvantage. Why would college coaches from those southern and west coast schools recruit from the Midwest when they have great home-grown talent? We need to give them a reason to start looking here and that requires an all-year commitment to softball training.

As I have told many of you, I assisted the Mizzou head coach one weekend at a camp where he went around the room and asked all the players if they thought they were the best on their team. Most of the girls raised their hand. Then he asked who thinks they are the best in the region? Still, several girls raised their hands. Then has asked how many of you think you are the best in the state? Only a handful raised their hands. And then he asked how many of you think you are the best in three states? At this point, only one or two raised their hands. And then he proceeded to say, if you want to play for me or any other top DI softball program you have to be not just the best on your team, the region, and the state, but you must be the best in three states. This story is putting in perspective how you have to want it more than everyone else if you want to be the best. I found this video of Auburn's 2015 spring training and thought it would serve as a great motivation for all of you to commit yourself to the game and to training to be the player you want to be!
